XO Dock Project   « Back

Aug. 28, 2010

Green WiFi has been advising a team of 5 students from the San Jose State University business graduate program for engineers on an OLPC XO docking and charging station for Haitian Schools. The goal of the XO Dock project is to provide an affordable, reliable, and safe docking system solution to meet the needs of educational institutions in developing countries. The solution will be delivered in the form of a functional prototype with an accompanying "open" business plan for local organizations to adopt in manufacturing and deploying the system. The prototype's physical structure is made up of PVC fittings, but can be replicated with bamboo or wood.

The first test of the prototype took place Sat Aug 28 with 24 XO's supplied by the OLPC SF user group. Progress on the project and their site visit blog to Haiti can be found at XODock.com. Also check out this short video from Aug 28th.
